FIGHT AGAINST CHRONIC DISEASE
The Sewickley Valley YMCA help individuals to manage chronic diseases through programs such as Enhance Fitness, an arthritis management program, Delay the Disease which helps to delay the progression of Parkinson's, and LiveSTRONG a program supporting cancer survivors. Being healthy means more than simply being physically active. It’s about maintaining a balanced spirit, mind and body.
Delay the Disease
This evidence-based fitness program, led by a certified Delay the Disease instructor, is designed to empower people with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological disorders, and their caregivers and spouses. This class optimizes physical function and helps to delay the progression of symptoms.
Participation may lead to increased self-confidence and independence, decreased the risk of falls, minimized fatigue, reduced rigidity, and improved mobility. For more information about Delay the Disease, please contact Adriane Stoner at 412-741-9622 ext. 120 or email@example.com.

LIVESTRONG, Healthy Living with Cancer
This program will fulfill the important need of supporting cancer survivors who are transitioning from treatment and want to regain physical and emotional strength. This twelve-week program for adult cancer survivors (diagnosis through remission) meets twice a week for an hour and thirty minutes. Class is conducted by a certified cancer exercise specialist.
- Build muscle and strength while increasing flexibility and endurance
- Reduce the severity of therapy side effects
- Prevent unwanted weight change
- Improve energy and self-esteem
In addition, this free program provides participants a supportive environment and a feeling of community with their fellow survivors. The costs associated with the program are underwritten by donations to the Y. Space is limited. Pedal for Parkinson's
The missions of Pedaling for Parkinson's is to:
- improve the quality of life of Parkinson's Disease patients and their caregives.
- educate patients, caregivers and the general public about the benefits of maintaining an active lifestyle after parkinson's.
- support research dedicated to the prevention and treatment of Parkinson's Disease.

Punching For Parkinson's
This program is a non-contact format where participants learn how to throw a variety of punches, develop footwork, and hit boxing mitts. All of these techniques help to improve balance, coordination and agility, strengthen one's voice, and counter muscle rigidity.
