YMCA preschool programs prepare children for kindergarten through a balance of play-based learning and structured routines. Classrooms are designed to feel like a supportive, home-like setting where children build confidence, independence, and a love of learning.
Learning, Growing, and Getting Ready for Kindergarten
Each day includes activities in language, art, science, math, and physical fitness. Children practice social skills, cooperation, and self-expression while developing the foundations for future school success. Preschool classrooms are led by experienced YMCA early childhood educators who partner with families to support each child’s development. Teachers focus on preparing children academically and socially for kindergarten while encouraging self-confidence and curiosity.
YMCA Preschool students enjoy enrichment opportunities such as yoga and physical education, as well as preschool sports and recreation programs, and swimming lessons at the YMCA. Offerings may vary by season and location and are available as space permits.
YMCA Preschool enrollment options include:
Part-Day Preschool
Held during the school year, part-day YMCA Preschool focuses on kindergarten readiness through small group learning, creative play, and social development. Offered 2, 3, or 5 days per week, part-day Preschool is ideal for families wanting a shorter daily schedule for their child. Hours and Rates →
Full-Day Preschool
Held year-round, full-day YMCA Preschool extends learning and play into a full day, providing a supportive environment where children can grow and thrive. Offered 2, 3, or 5 days per week, full-day YMCA Preschool is ideal for families who need extended care in a nurturing environment. Hours and Rates →
Assessments and Support
To help track growth, the YMCA uses two nationally recognized tools — the Ages & Stages Questionnaire (ASQ-3) and Teaching Strategies GOLD®. These tools help track developmental progress in areas like language, math, social-emotional skills, and problem-solving. These assessments are never about “testing” children — they are designed to celebrate milestones, identify needs early, and work in partnership with families to guide each child’s growth. Families receive regular feedback during conferences and through ongoing communication, giving parents a clear view of their child’s progress.
